SOUNDS OF SUMMER- UNIVERSITY WIND ORCHESTRA & SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE

Kieran O’Riordan conductors James Hughes Thomas Judd Clare Tomsett alto saxophone Programme to include: Minoru Miki Marimba Spiritual Peter Blair Street Beat Robert Woods Not in the Mood Several student ensembles perform together for the first time. The scintillating programme includes The Percussion Ensemble performing a powerful work filled with Japanese chichibu rhythms, and the renowned Moonlighters Big Band offering a selection of concert jazz, featuring rock grooves and a healthy dose of oldfashioned swing. We are also delighted to welcome back recent graduate Clare Tomsett as both composer and soloist in her dance-inspired new work. To round the evening off, the University Wind Orchestra present three contrasting works: the icy blast of Fergall Carroll’s Winter Dances; Percy Grainger’s sunny Faeroe Island Dance and Philip Sparke’s majestic Dance Movements. Spectacular!
