A welcome return for leading composer, producer, musician Max Richter and his ensemble, tonight presenting the public premiere of The Magic Inside- a unique Lakeside & University of Nottingham music and film commission. This short work takes its inspiration from the magnificence of Sir Peter Mansfield's Nobel Prize winning achievements in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and the innovative sculptural work of artist Marilène Oliver, who reinvented the portrait using MRI scanning techniques. David Vernon's film celebrates the science and the art and provides the integral backdrop to Max's evocative composition. Max's regular band will be joined tonight by the celebrated violinist Alexander Balanescu as featured soloist for The Magic Inside, and also the second premiere of the evening - the first live performance of November taken from Max's 2002 album Memoryhouse. The remainder of the programme will feature The Blue Notebooks, Max's most recent CD release which has received universal critical acclaim. Max Richter is at the cutting edge of creative music, both classical and electronic. Recent works include projects with director Ridley Scott, the actress Tilda Swinton, Mercury Prize winner Roni Size, and electronica pioneers Future Sound of London. His concert music is widely performed by leading world artists including The Smith Quartet and The Apollo Saxophone Quartet. His own ensemble perform worldwide, most recently in Japan and Sweden.
