VOGLER STRING QUARTET

Mendelssohn String quartet No.4 in E minor Op.44 No.2 Hartmann String quartet No.2 Beethoven String quartet in C major Op.59 No.3 Razumovsky Formed in East Berlin in 1985, the quartet is currently resident at Berlin’s Konzerthaus and has amassed a hugely varied repertoire and recording career. Mendelssohn’s sunny three quartets three quartets Op.44, were written in 1837 during the idyllic period of his honeymoon and first year of marriage. Hartmann’s jazzy quartet is rarely heard but is full of expressive harmonies and a full and flowing, orchestral like sound. It is suggested that the monumental, tumultuous Op.59 No. 3 quartet, reveals Beethoven confronting his affliction ‘‘let your deafness no longer be a secret, even in art." "The Vogler Quartet belong in the highest category of contemporary string quartets, their performances are marvels of eloquent phrasing and subtle co-ordination, instinctive music-making of the very highest class’.
