Summer Festival

The University's student run wind and brass society BlowSoc showcases some of its finest musical talents as the society's two auditioned ensembles, Wind Orchestra and Moonlighters Big Band, join forces as part of the Summer Festival. With an assorted programme from both ensembles it is sure to be a fantastic end to a successful year for the society. Conducted by Adam Whittaker (principle conductor) and Matthew Wigley, the Wind Orchestra celebrates the upcoming Commonwealth games to be held in Glasgow this summer with an exciting and diverse programme. The programme will start with John Williams Olympic Fanfare and Theme, which comiisioned for the 1984 Olympic games will provide a fitting opening to the concert. In an act of patriotism the orchestra will then showcase works form British composers with Ralph Vaughan Williams' Rhosymerdr and Gustave Holst's British military band classic First Suite in Eb for Military Band , before going on to celebrate all nations as Nigel Hess' Global Variations takes the audience on an exciting journey around the world. After the interval, Moonlighters Big Band under student conductor George French will do what they do best; entertain with a programme of popular Big Band classics as well as some more adventurous contemporary works.
