Archaeology Now: The Staffordshire Hoard, Six Years On

A series of FREE talks and handling sessions that focuses on current archaeological work. These talks allow professional archaeologists, related specialists and community groups to share their exciting work with us as it is happening and include regional, national and international projects.

Wednesday 7 October

The Staffordshire Hoard came like a bombshell into the archaeological world. Not since the discovery of the Sutton Hoo ship burial, 70 years before, had we seen anything like it, the quantity of material was unparalleled. Now the finds have been cleaned and we have had six years to study them. Dr Leahy, who prepared the first catalogue of the Hoard and has remained involved in the project, will update us on what has been discovered.

Dr Kevin Leahy, FSA, MCIfA. National Adviser, Early Medieval Metalwork. The Portable Antiquities Scheme.
