This exhibition is the first public display from the extensive photographic images within the archive and manuscripts collections of the University of Nottingham, presented together with items from the moving image collections of MACE (Media Archive for Central England) Since the mid-nineteenth century the work of photographers often amateur or anonymous has added a powerful visual dimension to our historical record. Today, the surviving images are recognised as an important resource providing evidence, feeding the imagination, and encouraging an emotional perception of the experience of past lives.
