This special retrospective exhibition celebrates the inimitable DH Lawrence- just seventy-five years since his death. Hear him remembered by his family and friends; look at previously unseen pictures of Lawrence and his family; and explore step by step how Lawrence re-created friends, family, local people and local events in his writing. An especially interesting exhibition for putting some of Lawrence’s own re-creations of the paintings of others against the originals from which he worked; it presents a rich, verbal, visual and audio picture of a writer’s relationship with his region, and with the people in it. This exhibition has been curated by the Lawrence scholar John Worthen in association with Manuscripts and Special Collections, and draws upon collections held here at the University, and items held by local institutions.
