CRAFTS EXHIBITION APRIL - AUGUST 2008
Not for all the tea in China
A COLLECTION OF FUNCTIONAL AND NON - FUNCTIONAL OBJECTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PREPARATION AND ENJOYMENT OF TEA.
Tea - a beverage made by steeping tea leaves in water.
Tea is a contradiction – at one time an exotic commodity and now commonplace within everyday life.
Tea can be a private or shared recreation, full of conversation and gossip.
Tea takes time, its preparation a ritual or ceremony.
Come to Lakeside, have a ‘cuppa’, and browse through our collection of tea paraphernalia and related objects. We will also be having some tea tasting sessions and demonstrations on the art of the Japanese tea ceremony, as well as a display of selected items from the Bramley Derby China Collection bequeathed to the University.
Featuring works by:
Susan Disley, Helen Felcey, Claire Lowe, Kate Mcbride and Kaori Tatebayashi
A Special event to mark this craft exhibition took place on
Saturday 3 May 4pm

High Tea by Annette Foster
Audience members were invited by our crinoline lady to pick a tea cup from the tea trolley situated under her dress. They could then select from a range of speciality teas which were poured for them by one of the assistants from a beautiful teapot. High Tea consisted of miniature sandwiches, cakes and scones, free to all who came along for the experience. After a relaxing 'cuppa' and a few 'sarnies' people could peruse the craft exhibition, 'Not for all the Tea in China'.
