Telling Tales

Telling Tales is a consortium development driven by a partnership between Derby Dance, The Spark Children’s Arts Festival, Leicester, and Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham. Over the last two years the three organisations have worked together to introduce international dance theatre to their respective children’s festival programmes. In year three, in addition to touring Aracaladanza’s latest production Pequeños Paraisos, the consortium have delivered a linked professional development programme for six dance practitioners from the East Midlands.

The Hare and The Tortoise by Sarah Hedge and Oksana Tyminska, Choreographic Director Hélène Blackburn

Selected through application and audition, the six dancers have participated in a range of inspirational and aspirational experiences including: two weeks working alongside award-winning children’s dance company Aracaladanza in their Madrid studio; an intensive period of creation with two acclaimed international choreographers of work for children and families- Hélène Blackburn of Cas Public (Québec) and Enrique Cabrera of Aracaladanza (Spain); delivery of a series of linked workshops in schools and community groups.  All of this has been complemented by a locally based training and development programme led by Project Co-ordinator and Rehearsal Director Claire Cunningham.

The final phase of the project focuses on presenting the Work in Progress results of the choreographic periods to the target audiences of 4-7 year olds and invited guests at Wren Park Primary, Derby; The Ark Arts Centre, Leicester; Space for Sport and the Arts, Jesse Boot Primary, Nottingham; and Lakeside Arts Centre.
